J.Y. Song leads an active musical life as recitalist, chamber musician, and educator. Since her Lincoln Center recital debut in 1996 and her nomination as 1994 Pro Piano Artist of the Year, J.Y. Song has developed a reputation as a musician with broad and idiosyncratic musical tastes. Her recordings have received rave reviews in the international press, including a Diapason d'Or in 2001 and a "Desert Island Selection" from Gramophone for her recording of the Debussy Etudes. Her Liszt/Busoni CD was called "superb" by Diapason and "terrific" by BBC Music Magazine. Numerous awards include Juilliard's highest award to a pianist, the 1996 Petschek Award, the grand prize at the 1996 Palm Beach Invitational Piano Competition, and the 1999 Pro Musicis International Award.

Raised in Switzerland, J.Y. Song studied at the Conservatoire de Genève and the Conservatoire de Lausanne wth Alexei Golovine and Jean-François Antonioli. She later attended Stanford University, graduating with distinction and honors with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music. J.Y. Song completed her doctoral studies at Juilliard with Jerome Lowenthal, and has taught at Oberlin Conservatory and Hunter College. She is now on the faculty of Mannes College of Music in New York City.

J.Y. Song welcomes students interested in developing all aspects of their pianistic skills, at all levels. J.Y. Song's science background has helped her develop a precise approach towards evaluating and solving technical problems, and an ability to explain issues clearly and productively. Naturally, an irrespressible enthusiasm for music is, of course, the first order of the day.
