Born in 1982, Christy Harmeson began playing the
piano at an early age. She studied piano under renowned
accompanist Robert Hazelrigg for over ten years.
Christy began teaching private piano lessons in
1998. After studying piano at the Santa Rosa Junior
College, Ms. Harmeson transferred to Sonoma State
University where she double majored in Music and
Communication Studies, earning a bachelors degree
in both and graduating Magna Cum Laude with Distinction.
Ms. Harmeson performs regularly as an accompanist
for local voice and instrumental students, as well
as with local choirs and vocal groups. She believes
in a complete, holistic approach to the study of
music. Piano should be fun and challenging, providing
the student the opportunity to stretch their understanding
and love of music. Ms. Harmeson teaches students
to play the piano in a supportive setting, offering
group classes and performances to further their
growth. Lessons proceed out of a classical approach,
but are tailored to suit each individual student,
motivating them to continue their studies. Jazz,
pop, and rock music are used frequently to supplement
traditional music. Ms. Harmeson believes motivation
is the key to any student’s success, and she
tailors each lesson to be inspiring, thought-provoking,
and enjoyable.
