Anna Johnson has a BM in Jazz Performance
and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music
in Rochester, NY. She has studied classical piano
with
Maguerite Samoorian, Vincent Lenti and Polly van
der Linde. Her primary jazz teachers include Wayne
Reiss, Bevan Manson, Michael Cain and Harold Danko.
Anna became the first jazz piano teacher in the
Eastman Community Education Division during the
year 2000. She has been a two-year faculty member
at the
Summer Sonatina School of Piano and Fall Sonata
Program in Bennington VT. She has experience teaching
both classical repertoire and jazz improvisation
and
she enjoys working with children of all ages as
well as adults.
As a performer in Manhattan, Anna composes, arranges,
and rehearses original music with various groups.
She has played at such venues as the Triad Lounge,
Cleopatra's Needle, and the Cornelia Street Cafe.

a CD entitled "One More Time in the Air."
Anna is currently
a member of a chamber group that will be performing
works of Shostakovich, Mozart, and Poulenc in the
early spring of 2002.
Anna's teaching philosophy is to help students
develop as complete and versatile musicians. She
encourages them to analyze, interpret, compose,
improvise and
sight-read. She also teaches methods for creating
original accompaniments, reading chord symbols and
ear training.
