A Brief History
Jennifer Warren Baker is well-known in the Loudoun
area for her high-energy playing and her moving
piano compositions. Active as a performer, educator,
and composer of keyboard music, Jennifer lives and
breathes music. A native to the DC area, she attended
George Mason University where she earned a BA in
music with a concentration in piano. She completed
a teaching internship in group-piano classes at
Contemporary Keyboard Studios in Falls Church. Upon
graduating, Jennifer took on several private piano
students and soon discovered how much fun teaching
could be. When her clientele rapidly grew to 30
students with 30 more on a wait list, she realized
that she had quite a good thing going. In 2000 she
named her studio Keyboard Adventures. Today Keyboard
Adventures offers a modern, creative alternative
to traditional piano lessons.
Performance Experience
As a performer, Jennifer really has no boundaries.
Whether it’s accompanying vocalists and choirs,
or playing with contemporary bands and ensembles,
or performing her solo piano compositions, Jennifer
accepts any challenge presented to her. She is currently
employed as an accompanist for Spirit!, and adult
contemporary choir of Community Lutheran Church
in Sterling, Virginia. She specializes in musical
theater accompanying and can be seen regularly as
a rehearsal pianist and accompanist for The Growing
Stage summer camps and other musical theater ventures.
Jennifer has also performed as a soloist with Franklin
Park Visual and Performing Arts Center and spent
four years as a staff pianist at Round Hill United
Methodist Church. Having very creative tendencies,
Jennifer is unique in her ability to weave her own
compositions and musical ideas into all of her performance
events.
The Teaching Philosophy
Jennifer’s teaching approach is unique in
several ways. To keep the student engaged, she teaches
a diverse repertoire spanning many genres and ethnic
backgrounds, including classical, jazz, blues, boogie,
Spanish, rock, pop, sacred, and movie music. To
keep lessons fun and enliven the learning experience,
Jennifer relies heavily on technology. Teaching
on a top-of-the-line Technics Digital Ensemble Piano,
Jennifer fully utilizes the capabilities of her
instrument to keep things fun. Since students often
learn better by listening, Jennifer often records
difficult music for students on a floppy disk that
they can listen to on their home computer. Students
also participate in a self-paced music theory computer
lab in the 15 minutes prior to their lesson.
Of course, technology is only an enhancement to
the firm musical foundation provided by Jennifer’s
skilled and patient instruction. By combining that
firm foundation with loads of creativity and a splash
of fun, Jennifer hopes that all of her students
will develop a life-long love of music and an appreciation
for the art form.
