I have an MM in piano pedagogy and performance from George Mason University. I am skilled in providing piano lessons for a wide range of levels. I can teach beginning, intermediate and advanced level piano students. I am particularly skilled in teaching kids piano lessons, beginner piano lessons and adult piano lessons.
In October 2009, I attended an introductory Suzuki course entitled, "Every Child Can" at Temple University in Philadelphia. The course described the way children learn to speak their first words and how this relates to learning music. I also experienced the Yamaha Music Method and Harmony Road, which incorporate solfege singing (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti). The young beginner relates pitches sung to specific notes on the piano and music staff. I have developed a unique curriculum which incorporates techniques used in the above methods.
Piano lessons focus on learning a varied array of repertoire (classical, jazz, blues, popular music, hymns, and music specific to a student's heritage), technique, ear training, harmony, music theory, and sight-reading. I travel to student's homes in Chantilly, Herndon, Sterling, Ashburn, Reston, Great Falls and Leesburg.
Additionally, I have a BA in flute performance from UCLA. I am skilled in preparing students for solo and ensemble festival and district band auditions. I also provide piano accompaniment for flute students at a reduced cost. Flute lessons focus on sound, technique, sight-reading, scales (major, minor and chromatic) and repertoire (classical, contemporary, french conservatory) and duets which are fun, engaging and enlightening!
