From 1978-1979, Mr. Paulson studied church music at Crown College in Minnesota. He received an Associate of Religious Arts degree from Northeastern Bible College and a degree in piano performance from Montclair State University. He has performed popular and sacred music as an entertainer and a church musician for over 30 years. He is an adjudicator for The National Piano Guild. Mr. Paulson's best ability in music is to teach piano. One of his many teachers was Eleanor Statmore, who studied with Rosina Lhevinne at Julliard. Mrs. Statmore was a remarkable pedagogy teacher, as well as a piano instructor. Mr. Paulson has also studied with Miss Ruth Slatum, Mrs. Rhoda Nelson, Dr. Paul Satre, Dr. Ruth Rendelman, Professor Edmund Battersby, and Dr. Beth Gigante Klingenstein. Mr. Paulson teaches primarily in his student's homes in Glen Ridge and Montclair, New Jersey. Mark also teaches in some of the surrounding communities. He teaches adults and children at every level. Some of his students are just beginning, while others are performing highly advanced repertoire. Mr. Paulson recommends that children have a desire to study music, and be able to read words before they begin lessons. Most students should wait until they are at least seven years old before they begin to take private lessons. If they start too early, they will usually quit and never study the piano again. Each student who studies with Mr. Paulson is taught differently according to their own interests and needs. Students have a desire to study with Mark for many years because of the way in which he teaches. His approach has made him an extraordinarily popular teacher. Mark has a unique ability to compose songs quickly. Most of his students have played pieces that were composed for them during their lessons.
